The Government Museum is located in Egmore in Chennai and is one of the best tourist attractions of the place. The museum was established in the year 1851,
regarded as the second oldest museum in India. Before it was established in Nungambakkam, but later in 1854 the museum was shifted to the present location in Egmore, in 1854. The place is considered as one the best among the museums found in South Asia. One of the major highlights of the museum is that it holds the largest collection of fascinating Roman
antiques outside Europe. The Government Museum in Chennai is spread over an area of about 16.25 acres, which includes 6 buildings and 46 galleries. The place is visited by domestic as well as international tourists throughout the year.

Visiting Time: The place is open from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. It is closed on Fridays and alike other museums in India, it remains closed during the government holidays.

Entrance Fee: For Indian adults they charge Rs 15 and for the children below 12 years, they charge Rs 10. As for foreign adults they charge Rs 250 and Rs 125 for kids.

Other Charges: They charge Rs 200 for a still camera and Rs 500 for a movie camera.
