Mukteshwar is a scenic hill station,
located in the Nanital district of Uttarakhand. Perched at a height of about
7,500 ft above sea level,
the hill station is situated at a distance of about 51 km from the main town of Nanital. The hill station derives its name from
the renowned Shiva temple that you can find at this place. According to the
legends, Mukteshwar is the place where Lord Shiva gifted immortality to a demon
who was killed by the Lord later on because of the demon’s wrongful deeds after
attaining the gift of immortality.
Attractions
The main attraction of Mukteshwar is a
350 year old Shiva temple. As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to
Lord Shiva and the temple is placed at a height of about 2,315 m, which can be
reached by climbing a flight of stone stairs. The inner sanctum of the temple
has a Shiva lingam, which is made out of white marble and is highly revered by
the people living in the surrounding areas. This white Shiva lingam is
surrounded with idols of Parvati, Ganesh, Nandi, Brahma, Vishnu and Hanuman.
There is also a Chaul ki Jali right next to the temple, which is a natural latticework
on a rock. The jali is believed to posses super natural powers and if a barren
woman touches the jali is said to be blessed with a child. Tourists can also
enjoy the breath-taking views of the towering Himalayan range from this temple.

winter season (November to February).

station to this place is Kathgodam Railway Station, located at a distance of
about 62 km. The station is well linked by train with places like Delhi,

station to the hill station.

network of roads that connects the place with places like Delhi (253 km) and
