Ziro, the World Heritage Site in Arunachal Pradesh

Ziro is one of the finest places to visit in Arunachal Pradesh, located at the distance of about 150 km from Itanagar, the capital city of the state.
Owing to its immense natural beauty, the place has been regarded as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. This renowned place of Arunachal Pradesh is placed in the Lower Subansiri District of the state and is mostly inhabited by the Apatani tribes. Rivers like Subansiri, Dafla, Nishi, Apatani and Miri meandering through this region adds to the beauty of this place. The valley is surrounded by uneven hillocks and paddy fields.

Attractions
There are plenty of attractions at this place, some of which are mentioned below.

Taley Wildlife Sanctuary
One of the chief attractions of this region is the Taley Wildlife Sanctuary. It is located at a distance of about 32 km from the main town of Ziro and is very rich in diverse varieties of flora and fauna. It is a natural botanical garden that covers an area of about 337 sq. km. With the variation of height of the landscapes within the sanctuary the flora and fauna also varies, which makes it a popular tourist destination of the state. The sanctuary is dotted with diverse variety of orchids, ferns and bamboos.

Daporizo
While on a trip to Ziro, one can also visit Daporizo, which is another small attractive settlement of the state. The place is located at a distance of about 193 km away from Ziro, in upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a scenic place, which offers some stunning views of nature and is inhabited by Tangin and Hilmiri tribes.
Menga's Natural Cave
Another tourist attraction of the region is the Nature Cave in Menga, which is located at a distance of about 19 km from Daporizo. You got to crawl to enter the cave and as you get to the other end of this cave; you will find yourself before another cave called Lord Mahadev.

Music Festival
The Ziro Festival of Music, which was started in the year 2012, is another popular attraction of this place. The festival acts as a platform for various talented musicians, artists, photographers and filmmakers, who come here to showcase their talent from different parts of the country, in front of a huge crowd, which also includes international guests from around the world.

Accommodation
There are very limited facilities available for accommodation in Ziro. While visiting this place, one can opt to stay at the Inspection Bungalow or the Circuit House of the area.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the place is between the months of April to November.

How to Reach
By Rail: the nearest railway station to the place is Tezpur, located at a distance of about 300 km. The station is well connected with other major parts of the country and you can hire a taxi from this place in order to reach Ziro.
By Road: The place is easily accessible through road by regular bus services from Itanagar, located at a distance of about 150 km.
By Air: The closest airport to the place is also at Tezpur, located at a distance of about 300 km. The airport conducts weekly flights to Kolkata and Silchar. Taxi services are available outside this airport for Ziro.
