Mukteshwar, One of the Best Places to Visit in Uttarakhand

Mukteshwar is a scenic hill station, located in the Nanital district of Uttarakhand. Perched at a height of about 7,500 ft above sea level,
the hill station is situated at a distance of about 51 km from the main town of Nanital. It is an enchanting destination for the tourists as the region mainly comprises of coniferous forest and fruit orchards. With its favorable climate, fruits like apple, peach, apricot and plum are grown in the region of Mukteshwar.

The hill station derives its name from the renowned Shiva temple that you can find at this place. According to the legends, Mukteshwar is the place where Lord Shiva gifted immortality to a demon who was killed by the Lord later on because of the demon’s wrongful deeds after attaining the gift of immortality.

Attractions
The main attraction of Mukteshwar is a 350 year old Shiva temple. As the name suggests, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the temple is placed at a height of about 2,315 m, which can be reached by climbing a flight of stone stairs. The inner sanctum of the temple has a Shiva lingam, which is made out of white marble and is highly revered by the people living in the surrounding areas. This white Shiva lingam is surrounded with idols of Parvati, Ganesh, Nandi, Brahma, Vishnu and Hanuman. There is also a Chaul ki Jali right next to the temple, which is a natural latticework on a rock. The jali is believed to posses super natural powers and if a barren woman touches the jali is said to be blessed with a child. Tourists can also enjoy the breath-taking views of the towering Himalayan range from this temple.

Best Time to Visit
This scenic hill station can be visited throughout the year, as the region experience a pleasant climate all around the year. Still, the most ideal season to visit Mukteshwar is the summers (March to May), as the place experiences heavy rainfall during the monsoon season (July to September) and thick layers of snowfall during the winter season (November to February).

By Air: The nearest airport to this place is in Pantnagar, located at a distance of about 100 km. The airport conducts regular flights to Delhi. Delhi International airport is the nearest major airport to this place.  Local and hired taxis are available from Pantnagar to Mukteshwar.
By Rail: The closest railway station to this place is Kathgodam Railway Station, located at a distance of about 62 km. The station is well linked by train with places like Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow and others. Regular taxis and buses are available from the station to the hill station.

By Road: Mukteshwar has a very good network of roads that connects the place with places like Delhi (253 km) and other neighboring cities. Regular public and private buses are available from Delhi and other adjoining cities to this hill station.
