Orchha, the historical and

This 16th century city
which was founded by the BundelaRajputs became one of the most important cities
of their dynasty. It was actually a hidden city which was discovered by the
Rajputs and later developed by them. They built many forts, palaces, buildings,
temples and other monuments all over the city which are present till today. One
among them is the Chhatries which are the cenotaphs build
in honour of the rulers. These chhatris rise on a square platform with the
sanctum having a similar shape. In the sanctum the cremated ashes of the prince
and princes are kept. At the entrance is the marble statue of Madhukar Shah and
his wife. The best way to enjoy them is by taking a raft down the Betwariver.
As you sail along the majestic view of the Chhatries will unfold before your
eyes transporting you to a totally different world.
