Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is the national park in the South West coast of Andaman
and Nicobar Islands. It is located in Wandoor, 29 kms from Port Blair. It was declared a National Park in 1893 to protect the exotic marine life. It is one of the top tourist spots in the Andaman. Tourists haunt this park to explore the magical charm of its unique marine life.

Why to visit?

Mahatma Gandhi National Park, Andaman has a number of small and large islands. It has a beautiful beach with powdery soft sands and lush green dense bushes and palm fringed coconut trees all around. Jolly Buoy Island and Red Skin Island added attractions of this park. The park is renowned for its unique underwater life comprising mainly of beautiful corals, an array of colourful fish, molluscs, sea turtles and star fish.

The best way to explore the eye-popping charm of the underwater life here is by scuba diving and snorkelling. Both these water activities are at offer. There are good facilities for these activities with protection gears and elite professionals. Having a close look of the underwater life is really fun relishing.

This park is also a haven for ornithologists as you can spot some of the most beautiful and rare birds along the region. A long trek along the islands and taking photographs of these birds will make your day. You are advised to take packed lunch and water along with you.

How to reach?

Regular bus services are available from Port Blair. So, you can easily reach the park via bus ride.

Visiting formalities

Getting a special permit from the Forest Department is a must. Except on Sunday, the park remains open for visitors from 8 am to 11 am and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. If you want to take a boat ride from Wandoor to Jolly Buoy and Red Skin islands then Rs. 100 per person will be charged. Remember you can only spend two and half hour on these islands.
