Mysore- The Palace City of India

Mysore city which is the second largest city of Karnataka is spread across an area of 128.42 km sq.
You will be amazed to know that the whole of the Mysore is situated on the Chamundi Hills. There are many tourist attractions in Mysore which makes it one of the most tourist visited cities in Karnataka. There are a number of beautiful palaces in Mysore because of which the city is entitled to be “The Palace City of India”. The Mysore Palace is one amongst the most visited tourist attraction in the entire country and even beats the Red Fort and Qutub Minar in terms of having popularity amongst tourists.

ATTRACTIONS:

Palaces:
MYSORE PALACE: This palace should definitely be visited once you are in Mysore as it portrays the incredible art and architectural framework accompanied by the colorful stone carvings which existed in the times of the royal family and are even preserved today.
LALITHA MAHAL: This palace was architected by Mr. E.W Fritchley for the exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India and thereby is the second largest palace in Mysore. It is built in the Italian Palazzo style that is having twin ionic columns and domes.

Gardens:
BRINDAVAN GARDENS: If you are one of those who would like to witness the colorful musical fountains then Brindavan Gardens is the place to be. This garden is supposed to have a fountain which reaches great height and is a delight to watch. In this famous botanical park you can also have a boating experience as well that is beneath the dam.
HAPPY MAN PARK: It is this park which is a mini zoo with wooden bridges and great atmosphere for you and your family to enjoy. However, the main attraction of the park is the “Happy Man Statue”.

Museums:
FOLK LORE MUSEUM: Located in the campus of the Mysore University this very museum offers you to witness the folk art and crafts from all over the state of Karnataka.
RAIL MUSEUM: It is located near the Mysore Railway Station and exhibits some ancient carriages and locomotives which are still in workable condition.

Places of Worship:
CHAMUNDI TEMPLE: This temple is one amongst the most visited temples in Mysore and is having an elevation of 1000 m which makes it a place for every tourist to visit.
ST. PHILOMENA’S CHURCH: This Church was constructed in Gothic Style of the Germans in the year 1926 and is a must to watch.

THINGS TO DO:
·      Sandal wood is massively grown in Mysore and so you can shop for various artifacts made from Sandal wood as the main source such as; Jewelry, idols, show pieces and animal statues etc.
·      Sandal wood perfume and Oodh are also a specialty of Mysore.

By Road: There are non-stop buses available from Bangalore to Mysore that leave every half an hour that is from the Bangalore Bus Station.
