Kailashahar, the Religious Destination in Tripura

Kailashahar is a town in Tripura, located in the Unakoti district of the state. This scenic town is located along the border of Bangladesh. 
Kalilashahar has a very rich history dating back to the period of 7th to 9th century and is popular among the tourists for its rock cut carvings and stone images.  Hindu, Muslim, Christianity and Buddhism are the prominent religions of the town. Due to this reason, one of the chief attractions of the tourists visiting this town is to get an insight into the cultural diversity of this place. 

Attractions
Unakoti- The place is one of the top tourist attractions of the region. It is a holy spot, which is featured with stone images, waterfall, murals and rock cut carvings. Among the most attractive rock carvings found at this place, the most attractive ones are that of Lord Ganesh and the central Shiva head. The Shiva head is also known as ‘Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava’, which towers to a height of about 30 ft, including a head-dress, which has a height of 10 ft. The place organizes a yearly fair during the month of April, which is known as ‘Ashokastai Mela’. During this time the place is visited by hundreds of tourists and devotees.

Chouddo Devotar Mandir- The temple is located at a distance of about 14 km from the town of Agartala. This sacred temple is dedicated to Ama (mother) of the native in Tripura, who is also known as Tripura. The four slanting ‘Chhar Chaalas’, that holds a lotus shaped structure in the middle resembles as a modified version of Buddhist stupa. Chhar Chaalas  is one of the main attractions of this place. Tourists visiting this temple can also visit the Kalyansagar Lake located on the eastern side of this place. One of the major festivals celebrated at this religious spot is the Kharchi festival.

Lakhi Narayan Bari- It is one of the prominent ancient monuments of the region, which was installed by Krishnananda Sevayet. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is highly revered by the people living in this region.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit the place is the winter season, which falls during the months of October to March.

There are very few hotels at this place that provide basic services for staying. Another option for accommodation while touring this place is the Agartala town, which is dotted with considerable number of budget hotels. Though these places are available at affordable rates, they provide standard staying facilities for the guests.

How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport to this place is in Agartala, which is located at a distance of about 174 km. The airport is well connected with various major parts in the country. Bus and taxi services are available from the airport to get to the place.

By Train: The nearest railway station to this place is Kumarghat railway station, which is located at a distance of about 27 km. The station conducts trains to places like Agartala and Lumding. Lumding railway station is well connected to places like Delhi, Kolkata, Bihar, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Nagaland. From Kumarghat railway station, you will get regular taxi services to Kailashahar.


By Road: The place can be easily accessed through road from Agartala, which is located at a distance of about 159 km. Regular buses are available from Agartala and other places in Tripura to the place.
