The Malleshwaram Peak is interesting things to do in
Attapaddy which is worshipped as a giant ‘Shivalinga’ by the tribal’s who
reside in here over many years. The festival of Shivratri is also conducted
with great zestfulness and joy.
The various places to visit here are:
Palakkad Fort: It was built by the great ruler of Mysore, Hyder
Ali in the year 1766 A.D. At present the Archaeological Survey of India looks
after this. At that time the fort has a vital importance and was built to
fasten the communication between West Coast and Coimbatore.
Silent Valley: It is untouched, dainty and unspoilt forest in
the mountains of Nilgiri in the Southern India. Noisy insect Cicadas form a
vital part of this forest and are large in number. It is a god lovely creation
of great significance in the gods own country Kerala.
Thirumoorthy Temple: Thirumoorthy Temple is positioned at a
distance of 20 km from Udumalpet on the highway from Palani to Coimbatore and
located at the foot Thiru Moorthy Hills along the Thiru Moorthy Dam. A
beautiful sight of nature can be seen from this place. The famous crocodile
farm at Amravati is 25 km from here.
Topslip: Positioned at 37 km from Pollachi located in the
hills of Anamalai it is a popular place for picnic. Accommodation for travelers
is adjusted to go around the Sanctuary laying in elephants back or van.
Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary: Standing on an elevation of 1400
meters, it is located in the Western Ghats near Pollachi which is about 90 km
from Coimbatore. With a protection area of 958 square km it protects various
rare species and other species like: gaur, tiger, panther, wild bear, wild dog,
sloth-bear, civet5 cat, porcupine, jackal, flying squirrel, pangolin, elephant
and birds like: tree pie, spotted dove, rocket tailed drongo, red-whiskered
bulbul, green pigeon, black headed oriole etc.
Other places to visit includes: Sholayar, Silent Valley
National Park, Kalapathy, Olappamanna Mana, Thrithala (it is a place where
Agnihotri (eldest son of Vararuchi) conducted 99 yagnas and made Indra the King
of Gods.) and several other places.
The nearest railway station is Palakkad Railway Station and
the nearest airport is Coimbatore Airport. Tourist vehicles are available
easily from those places. You can reach this place through roadways by many
routes like: Kozhikode-Mannarkad-Attapaddy, Palakkad-Mannarkad-Attapaddy or Coimbatore-Anakkatty-Attapaddy.
