The political turmoil in varied parts
of Thailand where activists are protesting about the ending of government of
Yingluck Shinawatra
is taking the flourishing tourism of Bangkok and Phuket in brink.
is taking the flourishing tourism of Bangkok and Phuket in brink.
As activists in Bangkok aimed prime
buildings and allegedly marched towards the US embassy the municipal council
across Phuket are closed along with council offices, Patong, Srisoonthorn,
Rassada, Karon, and Kathu with activists taking on to the streets of Phuket
city.
It is a move which is sure to bring a
huge problem and loss to the tourism industry. Either of the sides is conscious
of the absurd penalties of taking the noisy but peaceful protests of flag
waving and whistles blowing over the edge into aggression. Reportedly, the US
embassy and the ruling Pheu Thai party issued statements demanding an end to
the protests when the protestors targeted the Army HQ, entered the grounds
staying for about 3 hours and the police HQ where power was cut last
night.
The vista of travel warnings which
are being issued will rise significantly if the US embassy is included as a
location for the activists. The turmoil has gone for a week without any
consequences but the protests can go on for a long period without any violence
which would be wishful when thinking to visualize.
So far, the messages sent by more
than 20 nations have been advisories, information designed to keep travelers
clear of the protest sites. Large numbers of overseas countries are issuing
advisories and information for keeping tourists out of the protests sites, more
than 20 nations including Australia, Canada, Germany, Singapore and the US has
already warned their travelers.
The trouble which is rising day by
day is sure to be far greater in Bangkok than it is likely to become on Phuket,
but from a Phuket point of view the most troubling thing for them is that most
of the countries have issued travel warnings nationally.
The crash is sure to affect the
tourism industry of Phuket hugely.
