Solitary Site of Enchey Monastery, Gangtok

As per the history it is believed that monastery is built within the site which is sanctified by Lama Druptab Karpo.

Druptab Karpo, who was known for its flying powers, is considered as one of the powerful magician who had all the mantras in his shore to create the illusion. Beside that another important chapter associated with the gates of this monastery is it is a significant seat of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

As per the folklore, Lama Druptab Karpo who constructed the small shed on this site landed here after his voyage from Maenam hill and that’s how this monastery came into existence. Although the present composition of the monastery reflects the style of Chinese Pagoda which was built during the rule of Sikyong Tulku replicates the history of this monastery.
Being one of the holy sites of Gangtok, monastery safeguards the deities of Khangchendzonga and Yabdean. As per the myth Guru Padmasambhava restrained the soul of the legends like Khangchendzonga, Yabdean and Mahakala within the walls of the monastery.

Since then the monastery has earned religious impetus and devotes from all across the world comes here to understand the myth and it is believed that if you pay a visit here all your wishes would come true as the prevailing deities are believed to have a power to meet one dreams with reality.
As far as its structure and architecture phenomenon are concern at top of the monastery you will witness shinning golden cupola and the walls of it along with the prayer hall are decorated with Murals of four religious kings. Further the paintings of icons of the four fundamental directions along with the galaxy of Mahayan Buddhist can be trace from the site of the walls.

Here you will witness large compilation of mask which is wear during the festival time to reflect the Buddhist culture and the numbers of monks who live here serve their time in praying and preaching the words of Lord Buddha.
When it comes to festivals Cham dance festival is one of the renowned and it celebrated on 18th and 19th day of the 12th month of lunar calendar and during this time monks comes to play their part by performing mask dance and by reflecting different legendary stories. Beside that other festivals like Singhe Chaam and Pang Lhabsol are also celebrated here with norms and culture.
